ohne Rücksicht auf zyklische Anordnung oder stilistische Kategorien, und schon gar nicht in der Absicht, die Ergebnisse einer Öffentlichkeit zu präsentieren, entstanden Lieder, Songs und Chansons, denen Andreas Stoehr – so scheint es ihm heute – offenbar aus purem Sadismus eine endgültige Gestalt vorenthielt: das Unfertig-skizzenhafte hat es nicht nötig, sich einer Kritik auszusetzen.

Kunst käme aber, so formulierte es Arnold Schönberg, nicht von Können, sondern von Müssen, und so war das Frühjahr 2020 ein Geschenk besonderer Art: im Innehalten des Weltgetümmels gewann die Gegenwart an neuer Qualität. Die auf zahlreichen Notizblöcken und Notenblättern veruntreute Musik meldete sich aus den unaufgeräumten Winkeln seiner biographischen Sammlungen zurück und forderte ihr Recht ein, in eine endgültige Form gebracht zu werden.

Originally created without regard for cyclical arrangement or stylistic categories, and certainly not with the intention of presenting the results to an audience, songs, ballads and chansons emerged to which Andreas Stoehr – as it seems to him today – apparently withheld a definitive form out of pure sadism: the unfinished-sketchy nature doesn’t need to expose itself to criticism.

But art, as Arnold Schoenberg formulated it, comes not from ability but from necessity, and so the spring of 2020 was a gift of a special kind: in the pause of the world’s turmoil, the present gained a new quality. The music embezzled on numerous notepads and sheet music announced itself back from the untidy corners of his biographical collections and demanded its right to be brought into a definitive form.
