DUO SAMAMBAIA

“Birimbiri” entspringt einem brasilianischen Sprichwort und ist ein treffender Begriff für die Energie & die Freude der beiden Musiker am gemeinsamen musischem Schaffen.

Einander in Wien getroffen, ist das Duo Samambaia, ein brasilianisches Jazzprojekt, mit Kompositionen von Fagner WESLEY (Klavier) und Marco Antônio DA COSTA (Gitarre). Basierend auf Kompositionen und Autorenarrangements rekonstruiert das Duo die begleitende Rolle von Klavier und Gitarre, um sie in einem beispiellosen Dialog sowohl zu rhythmischen als auch zu melodischen Instrumenten zu machen.

Aus den Einflüssen des österreichischen Jazz (Karlheinz Miklin, Gerald Preinfalk, Joe Zawinul) und der brasilianischen Instrumentalmusik (Alegre Corrêa, Egberto Gismonti und César Camargo Mariano) wurzelt das Duo Samambaia in der Tradition komplexer brasilianischer Melodien, um eine Zukunft zu projizieren – einmal leicht und intensiv, dann streng und frei.

Birimbiri” stems from a Brazilian proverb and is an apt term for the energy & joy of the two musicians in their shared musical creation.

Having met each other in Vienna, Duo Samambaia is a Brazilian jazz project with compositions by Fagner WESLEY (piano) and Marco Antônio DA COSTA (guitar). Based on compositions and original arrangements, the duo reconstructs the accompanying role of piano and guitar to make them both rhythmic and melodic instruments in an unprecedented dialogue.

Drawing from influences of Austrian jazz (Karlheinz Miklin, Gerald Preinfalk, Joe Zawinul) and Brazilian instrumental music (Alegre Corrêa, Egberto Gismonti and César Camargo Mariano), Duo Samambaia is rooted in the tradition of complex Brazilian melodies to project a future – at times light and intense, then strict and free.

As sought-after musicians of the Austrian music scene, Marco and Fagner enchant audiences with their sophisticated harmonies and percussive playing style. Because each individual piece of music has a rich story, the two succeed in entering into authentic and engaging dialogue with the audience.
